Winter Jay
I
started this piece while housesitting in the mountains for nine days in December. “Winter Jay” is my latest Twilt. An Arm & Hammer Soda Card from 1916 was scanned and printed on cotton fabric and used as the focal point in the embroidery.
Linen fabrics, cotton organdy and lace were stitched together before the embroidery was added. Silk Ribbon leaves, embellishments and beads rounded out the central motif. The embroidery was then mounted on the batik with silk, chiffon and satin ribbons.

Sunflower Summer
“Sunflower Summer” is my latest Twilt or Twitter Quilt. I printed one of my Digital Collage designs on fabric, pieced on the black borders, layered and quilted the piece. Then the fun began. I added the bow with beads and then the silk ribbon embroidery. The gears, clock face and brass butterfly finished it off. Old Time Text
Inspired by the 12 x 12 group I belong to on Facebook, “Old Time Text” uses the word of the month for March: Text. I scanned then printed the fabrics in the background from my collection of vintage and antique books and ephemera. Some are as old as the 1830s. It’s 12 x 12 so it qualifies as a Twilt as well.

The Laugh of a Child

Early Spring
I know there is cold weather out there but Spring is coming in with a vengeance here in Southern California. It’s almost 90 degrees outside. This is my newest Twilt, “Early Spring”. Techniques include Silk Ribbon Embroidery, Folded Gathered Roses. raveled linen Tiny Twilts with bits of vintage lace and a doily corner. There’s a vintage button, lots of beads and my favorite French Knot Roses.

Twilts or 12 x 12s, A Lot of Fun!
At the Beginning of the year I joined a group on Facebook called the 12×12’s with Cosmo & Cook. The idea was that they would give us a word and we would use that word to make a 12 x 12 quilt. Anyone who follows my blog knows ….. that’s a Twilt. Here are my contributions for January, February and March.
“Delight” is January’s word and the title for my piece. I used a Crinkled fabric base with a burned edge silk heart. A bow held down with french knots was added along with a Digital definition of the word Delight from a 1908 dictionary. I finished it off with pearl cotton and silk ribbon embroidery. The tiny French Knot Roses are one of my favorite stitches.
For February we were challenged with Colorful and then Animal. I knew immediately that I would use the Zebra Batik from the 80’s. I applied fusible web to the batik print ,cut out the Zebras and stitched them in place. Once I fused them to the background batik I added a variety of sequins and buttons. It’s called “Dance of the Zebras”

rch with a bonus word of Bloom. I was working on my Tiny Twilt Squares and decided to use one with silk ribbon buds and a rose. I used pearl cotton Xs to stitch it onto a Digital print as the background. I added lace and silk ribbon embroidery. Once I added the border batik I thought it needed a bow and some pearl cotton feather stitch with beads. I finished it off with button and a Key. “What is the Key to Tranquility?”

Tranquil Flora
Another felted piece, “Tranquil Flora” is my latest Twilt. I’ve been working on the embroidery and beading for a while. Strips of various silks, a little rayon ,cotton organdy and wool yarn with just a touch of metallic mesh were felted onto a piece of white felt with my felting machine. I then added two painted lace motifs with a ribbon and some trim. Silk Ribbon embroidered flowers with additional embroidery and feather stitch in pearl cotton and silk were used to fill in. I finished it off with lots of beads.

A Bird in the Hand…..
My latest Twilt is another felted project, “A Bird in the Hand…”. I am thoroughly enjoying my felting machine. I felted several different colors of scrunch painted silk into a felt background, added felt branches and curly green roving for leaves. This was my first bird and it wasn’t easy. After I mushed it a bit I decided to add embroidery and managed to save the poor little bird. I added some pearl cotton embroidery to the branches and some silk ribbon flowers. The piece is mounted with embroidery stitches to a strip quilted batik base. I am pleased with the results but I think I need some practice making birds.

Five After Six
This Twilt, “Five After Six” features Machine Felting with silk Ribbon Embroidery. I love the ethereal quality of the felted background.
A digital collage was scanned and printed on cotton and then felted onto flannel. Pink and Green dyed silk organza was felted around the picture.
Background embroidery and beads on the felted piece became the background for Spider Web Rose and French Knot Rose clusters of Silk Ribbon Embroidery. Dyed rayon pieces and verigated organza ribbon and embroidery were added on the sides. The felted piece was then stitched with beads and embroidery to a quilted crinkled batik background. As a final touch I added the heart buttons. An old clock face, two gears and a vintage button cluster compliment the clocks in the fabric print of the digital collage. I really am enjoying my Felting Machine.

Hearts and Flowers

“Hearts and Flowers” is my latest Twilt. It includes paper piecing, a little Cathedral Window stuff, silk ribbon embroidery, a copy of a vintage flower silk, some crazy quilting and gathered silk in some of my favorite fabric colors.
